近年台灣人口逐漸邁向超高齡社會，且隨著社會型態地轉變，必須離開家鄉到外地工作的人持續增加，並造成在鄉下的獨居老人越來越多。由於工作繁忙，遠在外地的游子無法時常返家、探望父母，這時，若有一台可以遠端控制陪伴家中父母的機器人會是一件多麼棒的事情!雖然市面上有許多的遠程控制機器人(Telepresence Robot)問世，然而，因為價格過於昂貴，導致一般家庭少有，所以我們透過使用家中舊的智慧型手機作為機器人的控制中樞，將手機改造成一個遠程控制機器人，並且我們將開源本平台，讓每個對遠程控制機器人感興趣的人一起加入開發的行列，並期待能藉此達到推廣居家照護型機器人的目的，使它成為每個家庭必備的裝置。

In recent years, Taiwan's population has been gradually marching toward a hyper-aged society. Owing to the transformation of social patterns, the number of people leaving their hometown and working outside has been increasing. Also, the change has resulted in the growth of the elderly people who live alone. On account of the heavy work, people working far apart seldom return home nor visit parents. Thus, having a "Telepresence Robot" to accompany with parents can be considered a wonderful thing! Despite the fact that there have been numbers of "Telepresence Robot" launching on the market, however, due to the high price, normal families rarely owns one. Consequently, by attaching the robot's control center with the old smartphones at home, we can modify the smartphones into "Telepresence Robot." We named this Telepresence Robot, "Xiangter."

People are provided with an open source platform which contains software and hardware devices, and can enjoy the resources freely in order to create their own invention or creation. We are looking forward to accomplishing the goal of promoting in-home care robots, and promoting the robots as a necessary device in every family.
